PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island declined 1 cent this week to $2.88 per gallon, according to AAA Northeast Monday.
Rhode Island’s gas prices were 2 cents above the national average of $2.86 per gallon.

Prices ranged 40 cents from a low of $2.69 to a high of $3.09 per gallon. Last year at this time, prices were 52 cents lower at $2.36 per gallon.
- Midgrade gas was $3.06 this week, ranging from $2.91 to $3.39 per gallon.
- Premium gas averaged $3.31 this week, ranging from $3.09 to $3.54 per gallon.
- Diesel fuel averaged $3.19 per gallon, ranging from $2.99 to $3.29 per gallon.
“With gasoline demand running high and supply running lower, we will likely see an end-of-summer pump price rally as inventories continue to tighten, especially on the East Coast,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs, in a statement.
In Massachusetts, the average price of regular gas increased 2 cents this week to $2.84 per gallon, ranging 40 cents from $2.69 to $3.09 per gallon. Last year at this time, regular gas averaged 55 cents less at $2.29 per gallon.
- Midgrade gas in the Bay State averaged $3.08 per gallon, ranging from $2.89 to $3.29 per gallon.
- Premium gas averaged $3.26 in Massachusetts, ranging from $3.01 to $3.49 per gallon.
- Diesel fuel averaged $3.18 this week, ranging from $3.05 to $3.39 per gallon.
