PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island increased 5 cents this week to average $2.95 per gallon, 3 cents above the national average of $2.92 per gallon, according to AAA Northeast Monday.
Prices in Rhode Island ranged 26 cents, from $2.83 to $3.09 per gallon. Last year at this time, prices were 64 cents lower at $2.31 per gallon.
- Midgrade gas averaged $3.25 per gallon this week, ranging from $3.15 to $3.39 per gallon.
- Premium gas averaged $3.45 per gallon this week, ranging from $3.35 to $3.53 per gallon.
- Diesel fuel averaged $3.29 per gallon, ranging from $3.19 to $3.39 per gallon.
In Massachusetts, the price of regular gas increased 6 cents this week to average $2.87 per gallon, 5 cents below the national average and 59 cents higher year over year.
Prices in Massachusetts ranged 36 cents, from $2.69 to $3.05 per gallon.
- Massachusetts midgrade gas averaged $3.09 per gallon this week, ranging from $2.83 to $3.39 per gallon.
- Premium gas averaged $3.27 per gallon this week, ranging from $2.95 to $3.49 per gallon.
- Diesel fuel averaged $3.14 this week, ranging from $3.09 to $3.19 per gallon.
AAA noted traffic for Memorial Day weekend is expected to be worse on Thursday and Friday, May 24-25, in the late afternoon as commuters leave work early and mix with travelers.
