PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island’s per capita net worth was estimated at $32,010, according to a SmartAsset report released Tuesday.

Rhode Island’s per capita net worth ranks last in New England, just ahead of Maine ($32,534) and Vermont ($36,054). Connecticut ranked No. 1 in the region with per capita net worth of $55,430.

Rhode Island also ranked No. 3 in New England for least debt, with per capita debt of $47,390. Massachusetts posted the highest debt in New England at $60,770. Maine recorded the lowest per capita debt in the region at $41,310.

Despite Rhode Island’s lower rank for total debt, the study also measured net worth as a percentage of debt. The Ocean State ranked last in New England, with an estimated 67.5 percent. Massachusetts ranked second worst in the region with 69 percent, while Connecticut ranked No. 1 with 95.4 percent of debt accounted for by net worth.

In a ranking of Rhode Island’s five counties, Washington County came out on top, with the highest per capita net worth, $72,409. Providence County had the lowest, at $15,836. Bristol County had the highest per capita debt, at $56,162, while the county with the highest per capita income was Newport, at $40,320.
