PROVIDENCE – A $100,000 grant from The 1772 Foundation has put the Providence Revolving Fund within $90,000 of its $815,000 goal for construction of its Preservation Resource Center.
The Revolving Fund is renovating the 83-year-old former Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals building at 372 Fountain St., on the city’s West Side.
The new resource center will occupy 4,000 square feet on the first floor of the building. It is expected to be completed by January 2009. The center will offer a range of help – referrals, loans, contractors and building-code assistance – for local historic-preservation projects.
This spring, the Revolving Fund completed the renovation of the building’s second floor and moved its administrative offices from their old site at 24 Meeting St., on the city’s East Side.
“The West Side is where the Revolving Fund has been working since 1982, so this move will allow us to be more physically accessible to our targeted neighborhoods,” Executive Director Clark Shoettle said in a statement late last month.
