Rhode Island Community Food Bank launches campaign with Walmart, Feeding America

PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Community Food Bank is partnering up with Walmart and Feeding America for the annual “Fight Hunger. Spark Change,” according to a Rhode Island Community Food Bank Monday.

From April 2-30, Walmart customers can donate to Feeding America at the register and spread the word on social media. By sharing the campaign’s content on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, Walmart will donate $10 to Feeding America.

Customers can also purchase specially marked “1 item = 1 meal” products. For each “1 item = 1 meal” product purchased, the participating manufacturer will donate the monetary equivalent of one meal to Feeding America. Similarly, every time a Walmart credit card transaction is made, Synchrony Bank will donate a meal to Feeding America.

The Rhode Island Community Food Bank said that it received nearly $70,000 from the campaign last year. The food bank is one of over 200 food banks that are part of the national Feeding America network.

“By working with Walmart, we have an amazing opportunity to make progress towards fighting hunger in our community,” said Andrew Schiff, CEO of the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, in a statement. “This campaign will help increase awareness about the issue of hunger in America, allowing us to secure more local funds and ultimately provide more food to people in need in Rhode Island.”
