PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Business Plan Competition announced on Wednesday the eight finalists who are competing to take home $250,000 in prizes.

The finalists will make brief presentations at the RIBX business expo on May 3 at the R.I. Convention Center in Providence; winners will be announced following the presentations. A “top winner” will take home a $50,000 cash prize.

Finalists for the entrepreneur track are:

  • AmbiLabs: aims to manufacture scientific field monitoring laboratories. Principal applicant: Andy Tolley, Warren.
  • Lucidux: will provide three-dimensional images to help surgeons perform minimally invasive procedures. Principal applicant: Jason Harry, Providence.
  • Maternova Inc.: building a Web-based global marketplace to provide information and low-cost products to help save the lives of mothers and newborns. Principal applicant: Meg Wirth, Providence.
  • Moondust Macarons: will produce and distribute desserts nationwide that emphasize creative and novel design. Principal applicant: Stephen Fitch, North Kingstown.
  • MoveAround IV Buggy: aims to be the leading supplier of cart to provide intravenous and other related treatments for children. Principal applicant: Ralph Lawrence, Coventry.

  • PriviCare: will provide at-home diagnostic devices for common infections and diseases. Principal applicant: Sarah Huebscher, Brown University.
  • PriWater: creating a prenatal beverage supplement to reduce birth defects and promote healthy prenatal development. Principal applicant: Robert D. Aziz, Brown University.
  • Richtr.tv: developing a platform for TV viewers to provide real-time feedback on programs using an online social network. Principal applicant: Salil Sethi, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

    Frank Coletta, business anchor for NBC 10, will be the master of ceremonies at the RIBX presentations from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
