
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – About 2.2 percent of Rhode Island mortgages were foreclosed on in May, up from 1.5 percent in the same 2008 month, according to data released this week by First American CoreLogic, a tracker of national real estate data.
The 0.7 percent increase was less than the national 1 percent increase, according to CoreLogic. Nationally, 2.5 percent of mortgages were foreclosed in May, up from 1.5 percent in May 2008.
In the 12-month period that ended in May, the Providence-New Bedford-Fall River region saw 14,727 foreclosure filings – about 40 filings each day, according to CoreLogic. In the same period the prior year, there were 8,958 foreclosure filings, an average of about 25 each day.
