R.I. Hospital ultrasound accreditation renewed

The department of diagnostic imaging at Rhode Island Hospital has been reaccredited for three years as an ultrasound provider by the American College of Radiology, after undergoing an evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who specialize in the field.
The ultrasound division, which has a staff of 22, performs imaging studies on about 28,000 patients each year. During the accreditation site visit, both the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of the equipment were evaluated.
Along with ultrasound, Rhode Island Hospital’s department of diagnostic imaging offers the full range of diagnostic and interventional procedures involving imaging technology, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), 64-slice computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography(PET)/CT, vascular and interventional radiology and others.
“This renewal of our accreditation should instill a level of comfort in our patients, knowing they are receiving the best care from experts in their field using the most up-to-date imaging technology available,” said Dr. John Cronan, chief of diagnostic imaging for the hospital.
The department, whose radiologists also serve on the faculty of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, was also recently recognized as having one of the top diagnostic imaging residency training programs in the nation.
