R.I. house leader gets Justice Assistance award

PROVIDENCE – House Majority Leader Nicholas A. Mattiello has received the chairman’s legislator of the year award from Justice Assistance, a national organization that advocates for victim service and rehabilitation
Mattiello, D-Cranston, was presented the award at the organization’s annual meeting this month.
Established in 1978, Justice Assistance is a nonprofit organization that is an involved participant in all facets of the justice system: the courts, the correctional facilities and the community.
“Mattiello is one of few elected officials who have actually taken the time to understand what Justice Assistance does,” said Jonathan Houston, executive director of Justice Assistance. “He has demonstrated a great passion for the justice system and believes that victim services and offender responsibility are not mutually exclusive.” &#8226
