Berman said yesterday the House would reconvene on Oct. 7 and 8, but he confirmed today that House leaders have decided to move the date back one more week.

House lawmakers had originally been scheduled to return to the Statehouse in July before that was pushed back to next week. Berman said unspecified scheduling conflicts led the leadership to delay the session for until October.

The Senate has not set a date to reconvene, a spokesman said.

A number of major bills were left unfinished when the General Assembly went into recess early this summer. Lawmakers also need to decide whether to allow Gov. Donald L. Carcieri to withhold $32.5 million in automobile excise tax revenue earmarked for cities and towns in order to close a shortfall in the state budget.
