PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Senate yesterday confirmed the nominations of Beverly Blais, Bill Brackett and Douglas Bennett to the board of the R.I. State Council on the Arts.
The three were nominated by Gov. Donald L. Carcieri to serve on the 13-member board that is the RISCA’s decision-making body. Members are appointed by the governor for three-year terms, subject to the approval of the state Senate.

• Beverly Blais is a certified pharmacy technician at Pawtuxet Valley Prescription and Surgical Center in Coventry, where she specializes in custom compounding medications for patients. She has attended Community College of Rhode Island and the University of Rhode Island and attended advanced pharmacy classes at the Professional Compounding Center of America in Houston. Active in her parish, she is board chair and a past governmental affairs chair of the R.I. Catholic School Parents Federation. Blais lives in Coventry with her husband, state Sen. Leo R. Blais, and their children, Jeremy and Leanne.
• Bill Brackett, technical director for the Providence Performing Arts Center and director of technical services for Professional Facilities Management, is responsible for technical aspects of all performances at PPAC. He also serves as a theatrical consultant, designing and specifying backstage areas and equipment. He lives in Coventry, where he is a member of the town Economic Development Commission and a past member of the School Building Committee. He also has been a Little League coach.
• Douglas Bennett is the manager for North American distribution of construction products for Dow Reichhold Corp. He lives in North Smithfield, where he has been active in town government and with the school department.
The RISCA is the state agency responsible for supporting arts programs across the state. Financed by appropriations from the R.I. General Assembly and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, it provides grants, technical assistance and staff support to arts organizations and artists, schools and community centers, social service organizations and local governments.
