PROVIDENCE – Modeling and simulation professionals from around the world will flock to the city next week when the Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization presents its Spring Simulation Interoperability Workshop (SIW) and Behavior Representation in Modeling & Simulation (BRIMS) Conference April 13 to 18, both at The Westin Providence Hotel.
“M&S: Innovation at the Intersections,” will be the conference theme.
This year, SISO says on its Web site, “We are widening our vision to address interdisciplinary interoperability as an enabler of cross-domain synergy. … Much of M&S technology development has been linear: Like-minded people working to advance the state-of-the-art in military training application, Simulation Based Acquisition and warfare analysis. In the meantime, the biomedical, automotive [and] petro-chemical communities, among countless others, have been advancing their understanding of M&S science and technology.
“It’s time for us to converge, to explore our common and diverse interests exploring the intersection and seeking an explosion of ideas.”
SIW plenary speakers will be Dr. James Anderson, a professor of cognitive and linguistic sciences at Brown University; George R. Ryan Jr., director of T&E and Standards for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security; and and Nicole YAnkelovich, a principal investigator at Sun Labs, focusing on user-experience research.
Philomena M. Zimmerman, associate director of modeling, simulation and analysis within the System Integration Executive Directorate of PM FCS (BCT), will be the BRIMS plenary speaker.
The SIW/BRIMS event is slated for Sunday through Thursday, April 13 to 18. Simulation interoperability sessions will begin Monday morning and run through Friday, while the BRIMS sessions will start Monday and run through Thursday.
