RIC business center

It’s good to see Rhode Island College become a player among our colleges
and universities offering significant business programs.
What RIC provides that few of the other schools offer, is what has been
perceived as a more affordable education, and one more available to
older students who attend college part-time on a limited budget.
What RIC also demonstrates, is that a far greater percentage of its
graduates remain in the area than those of any of the other public or
private institutions in Rhode Island. More students are from Rhode
Island, more graduates remain here.
Since July, when James A. Schweikart become director of the Center for
Management and Technology, RIC has been beefing up programs at the
eight-year-old center. The center has overhauled its industrial
technology major, implemented an accounting minor, has proposed adding a
finance major, added an internship program and hired a staff member to
do career planning and placement.
Companies in Rhode Island often complain about the “brain drain,”
students from our colleges and universities leaving Rhode Island for
employment elsewhere. RIC’s history is different, with so many of its
graduates remaining in the area. We applaud the program’s upgrade, and
expect to find many of its graduates among tomorrow’s business leaders.
