PROVIDENCE – The newly-created R.I. Office of Economic Recovery & Reinvestment is using Google Maps to showcase the projects across the state that are being funded by the economic stimulus package.
Visitors to the office’s Web site can use the map tool to see where the various projects are being carried out. They also can click on each individual project to read a description, see its cost and found out how far along it is.
The map is available at recovery.ri.gov/programs/TransportationMap.php.
“We are continually trying to increase the amount of and improve the quality of information available on how the stimulus funds are being used,” Gov. Donald L. Carcieri said in a statement. “This new tool lets our citizens see where their tax dollars are being spent and gives visitors to the site important information about work zones.”
The state says 48 stimulus-funded projects have been authorized so far and 31 of them have either been advertised, bid on or awarded to a contractor.
“Rhode Island is anticipating one of the busiest construction seasons in recent years,” the governor’s office said.
