PROVIDENCE – In anticipation of its April 2 deadline, the R.I. State Council on the Arts publicized four dates on which it will hold grant writing workshops so those looking to apply for state funding will be able to put forward their best application.
“Whether this is your first grant application or your hundredth, it’s always a good idea to get a refresher on what makes an application stand out,” said RISCA Executive Director Randall Rosenbaum in a statement.

The sessions, while open to individual artists, nonprofit organizations and schools, are also free of charge and open to the public.
On each of the following dates RISCA staff will review grant application guidelines and grant writing best practices as well as answer questions from individual applicants regarding their submissions.
- Monday, Feb. 19 at Providence’s Southside Cultural Center from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, Feb. 28 at the Stadium Theatre in Woonsocket from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, March 7 at the Common Fence Point Center for the Arts in Portsmouth from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30
- Thursday, March 15 at Westerly’s Artist Cooperative Gallery from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.
Grants available during this cycle include art and education project funding for individual artists, arts organizations as well as educational and nonprofit organizations. In addition, April is the deadline for Artist Fellowship applications for individuals operating in the disciplines of crafts, film and video, folk art, fiction, poetry, play writing and screenwriting, photography, and three-dimensional art.
Rosenbaum also added these sessions are another way to meet and network with fellow Rhode Island artists.
Those interested can reserve a space at one of the workshops on RISCA’s website. Each of the locations are handicap accessible, however, if any special requirements are needed please contact RISCA via Rhode Island Relay at 711 or via email at least 48 hours prior to the session.
