PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island School of Design Museum closed out the year by welcoming three new staff members and an artistic fellow, according to a late November statement by the organization.
The new faces are Anita Bateman, Jamie Gabbarelli and Becci Davis.

Joining the museum in July, Bateman is the current Andrew W. Mellon curatorial fellow in prints, drawings and photographs. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Williams College and a master’s degree from Duke University, where she is currently pursuing a doctorate in art, art history and visual studies. Bateman specializes in modern and contemporary African art as well as the art of the African diaspora. She previously worked at both the Williams College Museum of Art in Williamstown, Mass., and at the Nasher Museum of Art in Durham, N.C.
A native of Assisi, Italy, and a graduate of Oxford University, Gabbarelli will serve as assistant curator of prints, drawings and photographs. He also holds a master’s degree from the Warburg Institute in London as well as a doctorate in history of art and Renaissance studies from Yale University. From 2015 to 2017, Gabbarelli was the Andrew W. Mellon postdoctoral curatorial fellow in old master prints at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Previously, his research focused on 16th-century Italian and Flemish printmaking and its relationship with other media.
Davis joins the museum as an art fellow. Born in Fort Benning, Ga., she received a bachelor’s degree from Columbus State University in Columbus, Ga., and a master’s degree from Lesley University College of Art and Design in Cambridge, Mass. Davis’ focus is on interdisciplinary art, collecting images, documents and oral narratives to create a new history and personal geography.
Established in 1877, the RISD Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
