RJP Packaging acquires Legacy Supply in Fall River

PAWTUCKET – The recent acquisition of Fall River-based Legacy Supply Inc. by RJP Packaging LLC is the company’s third acquisition since its founding in 2017, RJP announced Wednesday.

Legacy’s operations will be consolidated into RJP’s facility in Pawtucket. Legacy had one employee, who is staying with the company, bringing the total number of employees at RJP to 19.

The acquisition closed effective Nov. 8. Details of the sale were not provided.

RJP specializes in industrial and wholesale packaging and distribution. The company touts itself as a one-stop solution for packaging, safety, janitorial and sanitary products, as well as for equipment.

The company operates a wholesale retail store open to the public at its headquarters at 1 Campbell St. in Pawtucket. The company was started by father and son duo John and Ryan Powers, both Providence College alumni.

John Powers previously served as president and chief operating officer of AEP Industries for 29 years. The company was family-founded and run and was eventually sold to Berry Global in 2017 after attaining yearly revenue of $1.3 billion.

Ryan Powers was previously an investment associate at JPMorgan Chase & Co. for half a decade.

In 2017, RJP acquired the packaging division of Admiral Packaging in Providence. The company subsequently purchased a 50,000-square-foot warehouse in Pawtucket and relocated its headquarters there. In 2018, the company acquired Aggressive Packaging in Lincoln. Both acquired companies were consolidated to RJP’s Pawtucket location.

John Powers said the company sees domestic manufacturing as on the rise due to tariffs. He cited the company’s sustainability, service-driven approach and pricing as factors lending to the company’s expansion. He noted also his extensive background in the plastic-film business as a boon to the company’s growth.

“We are always looking for the right fit,” said Powers when asked if the company is open to future acquisitions, adding that the company is currently expanding into Connecticut.
