BRISTOL – Roger Williams University plans to build a new construction-management project center on campus, thanks to donations from Shawmut Design and Construction, a national construction-management firm.
The building is scheduled to be complete by the fall, just as RWU’s new master’s program in construction management begins.
The center will provide conference space for upper-division, construction-management students to study, to engage in club and team academic competitions, and to meet with industry professionals. It will feature an area that can serve as a laboratory, classroom, lecture hall or teleconferencing center.
“By helping to provide this valuable resource to a pre-eminent educator in construction management, we are making an investment in education and the future of the construction industry,” said Bill Hughes, president and chief operating officer at Shawmut.
Roger Williams University and Shawmut have teamed up several times in recent years. Most recently, Shawmut was responsible for constructing RWU’s Global Heritage Hall, the hub of global research, scholarship, study and collaboration for the university. •
