Samsonite says it is moving its North American marketing, sales and operations office from Warren to Mansfield, Mass., so it can be closer to Boston, “a major metropolitan hub that can better service the global needs of the organization.”
The move is effective Sept. 1 and will affect 120 workers, Tom Korbas, president of the Americas operation, said in an interview.

“Everyone will have a job, and I hope everybody comes,” Korbas said. Samsonite will keep its small store open in Warren, and “two or three” people will continue to work there, he said. Samsonite had been renting the office building; it’s unclear what will happen with it now.
In a news release, the company stressed that the new facility would be 30 miles from the current office – “within commuting distance for the current work force” – and 32 miles from Boston. Korbas said about half the employees live north of Warren and half south.
“As Samsonite focuses now on more fully internationally integrated operations, it is important for us to locate a key U.S. office in an area that better serves our need for managing a worldwide business, while also minimizing any inconvenience to our current office employees,” Korbas said in the release.
