Seminar focuses on ‘performance imperative’

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – The Massachusetts-Rhode Island Chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association is holding a seminar this Friday, Feb. 12, on changes in the industry and how providers are seizing opportunities for performance enhancement and management.
Titled “The Performance Imperative in a Time of Health Care Reform,” the event will feature a keynote address by John Glaser, vice president and chief information officer of Partners Healthcare and an adviser to the Obama administration.
Glaser will discuss the impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and its $44 billion in incentives for the use of electronic health records, including the potential benefts to hospitals. Also discussed will be the status of health care reform and its effects on hospitals.
HFMA represents nearly 35,000 professionals employed by hospitals, integrated delivery systems, managed care organizations, ambulatory and long-term care facilities, physician practices, accounting and consulting firms, and insurance companies. It evaluates, interprets and clarifies the work of government and industry policymakers and serves as a resource on health care finance issues.
Friday’s event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Westborough Doubletree Hotel, in Westborough, Mass., with registration at 8 a.m. The cost is $80 for HFMA members and $110 for non-members; continuing-education credits can be obtained.
