PROVIDENCE – The Senate Corporations Committee will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 20, for a public hearing to consider Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee’s appointments to the Interstate 195 Redevelopment District Commission.
The full Senate will convene on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 4 p.m. to act on the recommendations of the Corporations Committee.
The seven-member commission was established through legislation sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Dominick J. Ruggerio, D-Providence, and Rep. John M. Carnevale, D-Johnston. Signed into law by Chafee on July 9, the commission will help guide and oversee, with public input, the development of the land opened up by the relocation of I-195.
Both the committee hearing and the floor session will be televised live on Capitol TV – Channel 15 for Cox and Full Channel; Channel 34 for Verizon.
Chafee’s appointments to the commission are: Colin P. Kane, chairman; Barrett Bready; Barbara A. Hunger; Diana L. Johnson; John M. Kelly; Mark T. Ryan; and Michael S. Van Leesten. •
