NEWPORT – Speakers are being lined up for the Southeastern New England Defense Industry Alliance’s sixth annual Defense Innovation Days conference.
The event will be held at the Newport Marriott Aug. 26-28 and will showcase innovation and technology in the defense industry, including undersea technology and cybersecurity.
“It provides a forum where policymakers and business leaders can engage and learn from one another,” said Molly Donohue Magee, SENEDIA executive director, in a statement.
Department of Defense leaders that will be participating include James “Hondo” Geurts, assistant secretary for research, development and acquisition for the U.S. Navy, and Vice Admiral Nancy Norton, director of the Defense Information Systems Agency.
Platinum sponsors for the event are Raytheon and General Dynamics Corp. The event’s gold sponsor is L3 Harris.
Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., a ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., will be present, along with Rep. James R. Langevin, D-R.I., and David N. Cicilline, D-R.I., in addition to Rep. Joseph D. Courtney, D-Conn., and William Richard Keating, D-Mass.
“Having their input is essential to solidifying relationships between key innovators in the industry,” said Magee.
This year SENEDIA is again collaborating with the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport’s Advanced Naval Technology Exercise 2019. ANTX demonstrates future Navy technologies and provides a low-risk environment for their evaluation. The opening session of ANTX is just after the closing session of Defense Innovation Days.
