The Pawtucket Armory Center for the Arts recently received a $150,000 challenge grant from Shawmut Design and Construction. It is hoped that the grant will help promote philanthropy of the center through matching donations.
The armory, founded in 2002 to rehabilitate the Pawtucket National Guard Armory, has converted the space into a cultural center. The grant will support the armory in its initiative to promote arts education, performing arts and historic preservation in Pawtucket.
“We have been working long and hard to bring armory arts to where it is now,” said Yvonne Seggeerman, executive director of Armory Arts. “Now, thanks to Shawmut, we are poised to cross a new threshold.”
Bill Hughes, president of Shawmut Design and Construction, said, “Shawmut invests strategically in programs that we believe will contribute to the economic health of our communities. The Pawtucket Armory Center for the Arts clearly passed our test, and we are proud to be a part of it.” •
