Debra L’Heureux has always been a matchmaker of sorts.
First it was pairing Johnson & Wales University students with their dream careers during her time as director of career development. That eventually turned into matchmaking of couples, which L’Heureux has done professionally for 20 years. At the beginning of this year, she launched her own company, Get Ready to Date LLC, offering personalized matchmaking and dating-coach services to seniors out of an office in Barrington.
While social-distancing mandates have put a stop to in-person dates, L’Heureux has continued helping a roster of 100-plus clients find love via phone and video calls, including coaching on basics such as making eye contact and what to wear for what may be their first foray into virtual dating.
Unlike larger matchmaking services, L’Heureux prides herself on a personalized approach that includes multiple levels of verification – background checks, drug tests, verified employment and certified divorce papers when applicable – to prevent the deception that can occur in online dating. The price tag might be higher – L’Heureux declined to say what she charges for her services – but for clients who lack the time to cultivate a list of ideal matches or are sick of striking out on love, it’s a worthwhile investment, she said.
