Simulia in virtual-testing deal with Airbus

PROVIDENCE – The Simulia division of Paris-based Dassault Systèmes (Nasdaq: DASTY and Paris: DSY) today announced that its Abaqus finite-element analysis software has been adopted by Airbus as its preferred application for virtual testing because of its realistic simulations.
The company’s choosing to employ Abaqus for static nonlinear FEA “represents a first step in what is to develop into a longer-term collaborative relationship,” Simulia said. Under a multi-year agreement, Dassault is to provide software and services to Airbus sites in Toulouse, France; Filton, U.K.; Hamburg/Bremen, Germany; and Getafe, Spain.
Airbus’ decision comes as a result of “an extensive benchmark of several FEA codes,” Simulia said. The Abaqus FEA software already has been used by Airbus for structural virtual testing of its A380 aircraft.
“This announcement reinforces the fact that the world’s leading companies see nonlinear FEA technology as a key enabler for delivering realistic simulations with high-fidelity correlation to the physical world,” said Ken Short, vice president of strategy and marketing at Simulia. The company’s applications “enable customers to gain significant business benefits by leveraging virtual testing throughout the enterprise,” he said.
Dassault Systèmes (Nasdaq: DASTY and Paris: DSY) specializes in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions. It is the parent of parent of the Providence-based Simulia, a developer of DS-simulation software including the Abaqus and Catia applications. For more information, visit www.simulia.com.
