GTECH Corp. recently opened a new $15,000 computer lab at the Smith Hill Community Library. The opening was GTECH’s 20th computer-lab donation in Providence.
The Smith Hill lab includes eight computers as well as workstations, chairs and software for youth to use when doing homework at the library after school. GTECH also provided resources for the library’s adult-learning lab, and aided in the electrical renovations needed to install the labs.
“GTECH is happy to partner with the Providence Community Library to support the local youth in our capital city,” said Robert K. Vincent, GTECH senior vice president of corporate affairs, in a statement. “GTECH and the Smith Hill Library are giving students access to a powerful combination of educational resources with state-of-the-art technology.”
As agreed in the corporation’s 2003 tax-stabilization agreement with Providence, GTECH will open 10 more computer labs in the city. The company has donated 156 computer labs around the country since 1999. •
