SMITHFIELD – The McDonald’s restaurant at 445 Putnam Pike is following suit with the Atwood Avenue McDonald’s in Johnston and going high-tech. A grand reopening for the Smithfield location was held April 3, according to the McDonald’s corporation.
Part of the new conveniences? Kiosks where diners can order their meals if they prefer, according to a McDonald’s press release.

The new model, now offered in more than 100 New England McDonald’s locations, also includes a table-service option not previously offered, said Angele Busch, a brand-reputation manager with the company.
“McDonald’s is placing a higher emphasis on hospitality by weaving technology into the dining experience, with new self-ordering kiosks, mobile order pay … and table service that offers guests greater customization and the opportunity to relax while their food is being made,” she said. “Also, the completion of this modernized restaurant showcases McDonald’s impact and investment into the Smithfield community.”
The Smithfield Fire Department, Rep. Thomas Winfield, D-Smithfield, and Smithfield Town Manager Randy Rossi were slated to attend the reopening celebration.
