SolarWrights-Solar Works combo becomes Alteris

THE NEW COMPANY, based in Wilton, Conn., had 110 employees working out of 14 offices as of Oct. 14, when the merger of SolarWrights and Solar Works was announced. Today, it opened a 15th location: a sales and production office in Natick, Mass. /

WILTON, Conn. – The company formed by the merger of SolarWrights Inc. and Solar Works Inc. today announced it has chosen a new name, Alteris Renewables Inc., and a new address.
“Corporate and commercial headquarters will be in Connecticut, but we’re maintaining a strong presence here in Rhode Island, as well,” Keally DeWitt, the marketing director for Alteris, told Providence Business News today. The new site, in Wilton, is more centrally located than either SolarWrights’ offices in Bristol or SolarWorks’ hometown of Montpelier, Vt.
Ron French, former president and CEO of Solar Works, “is president of the overall company,” DeWitt said. Robert W. “Bob” Chew, SolarWrights’ founder and president, becomes president of Alteris’ residential division, which will be based in Bristol. And Chris Lamonia will head the company’s wind division, which will be based in Waitsfield, Vt.
SolarWrights and Solar Works had a combined staff of 110 as of Oct. 14, when Boston-based private equity firm Riverside Partners LLC announced it had acquired SolarWrights and Solar Works and merged the two fast-growing alternative energy firms into a single company. (READ MORE)
SolarWrights – founded in 1977 as solar contracting firm R.W. Chew Co. Inc. – focused on the design and installation of solar-electric (photovoltaic), solar-thermal and wind-energy systems for commercial and residential use. Solar Works – founded in 1980 – was a developer and system integrator focusing on photovoltaic and solar-thermal systems for residential, commercial, educational and institutional clients.

Solar Works – founded in 1980 – was a developer and system integrator focusing on photovoltaic and solar-thermal systems for residential, commercial, educational and institutional clients. Like SolarWrights, it saw its sales more than double in 2007.
Alteris appears to be aiming to continue that growth.
“The company will maintain its extensive sales and service network,” it said in a statement today. Besides its headquarters, SolarWrights had offices in Stonington, Warren and Westport, Conn,; Orleans, Springfield and South Dartmouth, Mass.; Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; and Montpelier. Solar Works listed satellite offices in Hartford, Stamford and Wilton, Conn.; Boston and Lee, Mass.; and Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
“Earlier this morning, the company opened a new sales and production office in Natick, Mass.,” giving it a total of 15 offices in six states, Alteris added.
