SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Aiming to help pregnant women and new moms to stay fit, South County Hospital is offering medically managed exercise classes and programs at its Wellness & Fitness Center.
Beginning or maintaining a regular schedule of exercise during pregnancy can improve sleep, control back tension, relieve stress, improve mood, and possibly even make for an easier labor and delivery. After giving birth, exercise can help women get back in shape.
The hospital is offering two ongoing programs that woman can join anytime. One option includes full gym membership and unlimited visits; the other option is for eight sessions.
With either program, enrollees start with a one-on-one session with an exercise physiologist to determine their needs and goals. There are group classes, and women can also design a customized exercise program to follow at their convenience.
The exercise offerings include supervised cardiovascular exercise as well as stretching, toning, and stability ball exercises.
The Wellness & Fitness Center is in the lower level of the Medical Office Building Wing at South County Hospital and is open Monday through Friday. For more information, call (401) 782-8020, ext. 3484.
