SOUTH KINGSTOWN – A vintage car dealership in the village of Wakefield has been sold and will be redeveloped into a new retail center.

Fred W. Smith Inc., established in 1916, sold a nearly 5-acre site at 84 Old Tower Hill Road for $2.1 million on Feb. 8, according to Sweeney Real Estate & Appraisal, which brokered the sale.

The property is home to Smith’s car sales business – which was described online as one of the oldest Chrysler-Dodge dealerships in the country – and includes an undeveloped site behind the 10,804-square-foot business.

The tract will be cleared and redeveloped, with a new retail business in front and a self-storage facility in the back of the property, according to Sweeney.
