SouthCoast Community Foundation awards $600K to nonprofits through Emergency Response Fund

NEW BEDFORD – The SouthCoast Community Foundation announced Wednesday that it has awarded 60 local nonprofits more than $600,000 in grants from the foundation’s Emergency Response Fund.

The funds from the foundation will support the organizations, which serve vulnerable populations, that were financially impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The foundation created the fund in March 2020 and has granted more than $5.4 million to approximately 120 nonprofits to date through the fund.

SouthCoast Community Foundation President John Vasconellos said in a statement that while the community has seen resilience from the nonprofits, the organizations are still struggling as the pandemic rages on.

“We are exceedingly grateful that our Emergency Response Fund has been able to provide them critical support thanks to the outpouring of philanthropic partnerships we’ve found with so many local individuals, families, businesses and other foundations,” Vasconellos said.
