
NEW BEDFORD – Southcoast Health System Inc. awarded $142,065 in Community Benefits Impact Opportunity program grants to 39 local nonprofits in the region, the nonprofit health system announced Wednesday.
The annual competitive grants program is in its third year and has awarded a total of $409,565, according to the health system.

Organizations were selected for six community impact factors including reducing the rate of chronic diseases in the area, reducing health disparities, the reduction of youth risk behaviors, the treatment of behavioral health issues such as substance use and mental health, the promotion and treatment of maternal and children’s health, and the development of healthy “system and environments” change.
“Southcoast Health is a not-for-profit health system, with the mission of promoting the optimal health and well-being of individuals in the communities we serve. We take that mission very seriously and are dedicated to improving the health of everyone in the south coast region,” said Keith A. Hovan, president and CEO of Southcoast Health, in a statement. “As part of our commitment, we collaborate with our many community partners, whose missions also seek to improve health and well-being in the region and are pleased we can support their work through this grant process.”
