Updated: 3:29 p.m.

FALL RIVER — Southcoast Health will host a ribbon cutting for its new $1.8 million Southcoast Urgent Care Center July 9, 11 a.m. at SouthCoast Marketplace, 450 William S. Canning Blvd., Fall River, then open for patients July 10.

The 5,700-square-foot center will employ about 30 people and serve as a community resource for immediate, non-emergency care, including the flu, colds, sore throats, minor burns, lacerations and other minor injuries. The site also offers x-ray, laboratory, orthopedic, gynecologic and intravenous services, as well as minor surgical evaluation and tuberculosis testing.

It will be staffed by a specialized team of physicians, mid-level providers and a number of ancillary and support staff.

“Our Urgent Care centers are especially important now that we are living in an age where our patients have truly become health care consumers. Convenience, access, customer service, transparency and affordability are the features consumers not only expect, but demand, in the retail and hospitality sectors. We are seeing these expectations in health care now as well. Patients want high quality care when they need it. Our Urgent Care Centers deliver on those expectations,” said Keith A. Hovan, president & CEO of Southcoast Health.

The center will be open to the public, treating adults and children (6 months and older). Walk-ins are welcome, the company said, and no appointment will be needed. Patients are not required to have a Southcoast Health primary care physician and the patient’s primary care physician will be electronically alerted to a visit in order to achieve continuity of care.

The Fall River facility is Southcoast Health’s sixth Urgent Care center, including 208 Mill Road in Fairhaven, 2421 Cranberry Highway in Wareham Crossing, 435 State Road in Dartmouth, 39 Commerce Way in Seekonk and 12 Main Street in Lakeville.

The Urgent Care center will be open seven days a week – Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Patients can use the company’s online check-in system to find the closest center, its current wait time and click “Save My Spot” to get in line electronically.
