PROVIDENCE – Spreehive, a daily deals buying site similar to Groupon, debuted on Feb. 28 to Rhode Island consumers.
The website, founded by Claude Arnell Milhouse, CEO, and Anthony Gemma, president, calls its deals “spreebies” and allows shoppers to select a local nonprofit – Alzheimer’s Cure Foundation, Family Service of Rhode Island, Higher Ground International, Spurwink Rhode Island or House of Hope – CDC – to receive 5 percent of the deal revenue.

Its first deal, on Feb. 28, was $15 for $30 worth of food or drink at the Sapphire Restaurant & Lounge in Lincoln.
Spreehive’s revenue split is 60 percent goes to the merchant, 35 percent to Spreehive and 5 percent to the selected nonprofit.
The website currently services Rhode Island and plans to expand to Boston within six months.
Its deal categories include: retail, health and beauty, food and drink, visitor tourism and events.
Spreehive, partnered with Mediapeel, is a for-profit corporation with offices in Providence and Lincoln.
