Startup-focused applied shellfish farming course offered by RWU

BRISTOL – Over the course of the next four months local shellfish farming startup businesses will be able to learn more about applied shellfish farming through a new course offered in-person and online by Roger Williams University’s Center for Economic and Environmental Development.

The non-credit course, announced in a Wednesday release by the school, will be taught by RWU associate professor of biology Dale Leavitt, Center for Economic and Environmental Development research association Matt Griffin and shellfish hatchery manager Robbie Hudson as well as select outside speakers. It will consist of 15 evening lectures commencing on Tuesday, Jan. 16 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Geared to business owners who are seeking to start or improve their current farm operations, the course is available to participants both in-person on the Bristol campus and via a weekly live webinar.

For each participating unit – multiple family members, business partners or associates attending together count as a unit – the course fee is $75. Individuals interested in participating in the in-person class can show up to the course on Jan. 16 and be enrolled whereas those seeking to enroll in the digital version are asked to email oysters@rwu.edu for more information.
