NEW BEDFORD – The Mass. Division of Capital Asset Management has rejected two proposals to create a new downtown campus of Bristol Community College, saying the plans are too expensive.
The average annual cost of a proposal to lease the former Standard-Times building was about $725,000 over 10 years while the average annual cost to lease a former Webster Bank building was about $774,000.
BCC still wants to expand in downtown New Bedford, but administrators haven’t decided how to proceed.
State Sen. Mark Montigny said the Division of Capital Asset Management will work with other state agencies and BCC to retool and reissue a request for proposals. •
