PROVIDENCE – Rep. William San Bento Jr., D-Pawtucket and North Providence, has introduced legislation to ask voters if they approve of state-operated casino gambling at Twin River in Lincoln.
If approved, the legislation would ask voters in November 2012 whether they support including table games at the facility that currently offers about 4,750 video lottery terminals.
“I honestly feel the addition of table games could generate another $100 million in revenue for the state, at a time when we face a significant budget deficit and the potential for cuts in state programs,” San Bento said. The bill has been referred to the House Committee on Finance.
Last week, the Lincoln Town Council approved a resolution asking the General Assembly to give Lincoln voters a chance to decide on the issue, a news release said, while noting that the Rhode Island Constitution requires both statewide and local approval for any new kind of gambling.

In my opinion casino gambling is not a desirable source of income for the state, however this does not sound like a bad idea because there is a chance it would put the debate with the Narragansett tribe to rest once and for all. But then again, maybe that is just wishful thinking. Either way, let the people decide!!!
