
PROVIDENCE – The storm that passed through New England early Monday morning left affected by power outages in Rhode Island and 32,256 affected customers in Bristol County, Mass., according to National Grid PLC Monday.
Due to widespread power outages, all Providence public schools and afterschool activities were closed Monday. Schools in several other communities were also delayed or closed Monday.

National Grid has estimated that power would be restored to customers in every Rhode Island county by 6 p.m. Tuesday.
MBTA commuter train service between Providence and South Station in Boston was experiencing delays due to the heavy rain, wind, downed trees and power outages through the area. Outbound service from South Station to Providence was suspended this morning, affecting the Mansfield stop to Wickford Junction due to downed trees.
Outbound service to Providence remained suspended until 9:36 a.m. this morning, while inbound service resumed earlier with, “heavy delays.”
“Safety is our first priority and I cannot emphasize enough the importance of staying away from downed power lines,” said Dan Bunszell, National Grid’s vice president of New England Electric Operations. “We ask for our customers’ patience as we work to restore their power.”

- Due to the storm West Warwick One-Stop Career Center is closed Monday.
- The Small Business Association’s National Veterans Small Business Week Event has been moved to Monday Nov. 6.
- The Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce’s Monday networking event has been postponed.
