Study: R.I. 10th-best state for millennials

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island ranks as the 10th-best state for millennials, according to a recent study by scholaroo. 

The online scholarship finder gathered data on 52 metrics that impact millennials’ decisions on where to live. Considerations include the cost of living, homeownership rate, unemployment rate and median student loan debt, amongst other factors. All 50 states were ranked from best to worst. 

The Ocean State compiled an overall score of 67.06, ranking 33rd best in the nation for affordability, 15th for political and social environment, 38th for employment, sixth for quality of life, seventh for health, ninth for personal finance and seventh for safety. 

Minnesota ranked best in the nation for millennials, according to the study. That state compiled an overall score of 72.28, ranking fourth best in the nation for affordability, 14th for political and social environment, seventh for employment, ninth for quality of life, 11th for health, second for personal finance and 15th for safety.

Utah was second and Massachusetts was third – and the top state in New England – for millennials according to the study.

The Bay State had an overall score of 68.96, ranking 47th for affordability, sixth for political and social environment, 12th for employment, seventh for quality of life, second for health, 16th for personal finance and ninth for safety.

North Dakota and Iowa rounded out the top five. 

Louisiana was the worst state for millennials according to the study. That state had an overall score of 51.67, ranking 31st for affordability, 50th for political and social environment, 33rd for employment, 28th for quality of life, 48th for health, 48th for personal finance and 46th for safety.

Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas and Oklahoma rounded out the bottom five.
