WOONSOCKET – Summer Infant Inc., manufacturer of infant and child products, has released safety tips and advice for parents and caregivers during the month of September, in recognition of Baby Safety Month.

Sponsored annually by the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association, of which Summer Infant is a member, Baby Safety Month aims to increase consumer awareness of safety hazards with the potential to harm infants and young children, and highlight products designed and tested to keep babies safe and secure.

“Consumers are more apt to follow safe practices when they have smart, sound and easy-to-use products that put their child’s safety at the forefront,” Mark Messner, president and CEO of Summer Infant, said in a statement. “Via our Summer Infant and SwaddleMe brands, we work regularly with the JPMA to ensure our products are vigorously tested to meet and exceed all safety standards, so we can then provide practical product solutions to keep babies safe at all times.”

Here are some of the company’s top safety recommendations for parents and guardians to keep in mind:

  • Keep all cords and cables (such as for a video monitor) a minimum of 3 feet away from the crib and out of a baby’s reach using cord clips, fasteners and cord shorteners.
  • Once an infant becomes mobile, create a safe environment for the infant to explore using pressure-mounted gates for doorways and hardware-mounted gates for stairs. Portable play yards also provide a safe play area that can be easily set up or taken down.
  • Moms, dads and caregivers should never put loose bedding in the crib with an infant. Summer Infant recommends its SwaddleMe line of infant sleep products to keep babies snug and safe at night.
  • Always let an infant sleep in a separate environment, never in bed with the parents. Side sleepers are an option for parents who want to keep their babies close without any safety risks. After the age of 2, bedrails can help keep toddlers safe as they transition from a crib to a bed.

Many of Summer Infant’s top-selling items are designed for safety both in the home and during travel. Their line of infant care products includes nursery audio/video monitors, safety gates, bed rails, strollers, booster and potty seats, bouncers, travel accessories, bath products, highchairs and swings. In addition, the company sells products for swaddling and feeding infants, under its SwaddleMe and Born Free brands, respectively.

Headquartered in Woonsocket, Summer Infant is a leading manufacturer of infant and juvenile products for ages 0-3 years, sold principally at large North American and international retailers. For more information and safety tips, visit www.summerinfant.com.
