PROVIDENCE – This year’s national survey of 1,034 adults and 507 teens by Propeller Insights – on behalf of cashback shopping company Ebates – showed the Apple iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy as top gift preferences for 2017.
But which of the specific models that were preferred depended on respondents’ ages, according to survey results.

Thirty-five percent of teens want a pricey iPhone X or an Apple iPhone 8 under their Christmas tree. In comparison, only 20 percent of adults want the iPhone X, with 22 percent of adults wanting the iPhone 8.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 is the pick of adults overall, with 38 percent calling it the gift they would most like to see with their name attached.
In other tech gift news, Beats wireless earbuds are highly sought after by teens this holiday season. Forty-four percent of teenagers have it on their list for Santa. According to the survey, 28 percent of parents plan to make that dream come true and pick up the earbuds for their kids this year – many likely pretending it’s from Santa.
Drones are wanted by 47 percent of teen boys this holiday, and Polaroid cameras are wanted by 52 percent of teen girls. Other hot tech items for teens are Nintendo Switch, Bose portable speakers and Amazon Echo – wanted by 26 percent of boys and 24 percent of girls.
The bigger picture? One in five Americans plan to spend between $250 and $500 on holiday gifts this year, and almost as many will spend more than $1,000 (18 percent) or $750 to $1,000 (17 percent), according to the Ebates survey.
