PROVIDENCE – With online marketplace Shipt, Target Corp. will offer same-day delivery in the Providence area, the company announced, beginning April 10. Target, headquartered in Minneapolis, acquired Alabama-based Shipt for $550 million in December.
More than 55,000 groceries, electronics, toys and other products will ship from Target stores in Providence and the surrounding areas, as well as from Fall River, New Bedford, Springfield, Mass., Worcester, Mass., and areas of New Hampshire. On April 12, other areas of the Bay State, including Boston, will be added to the mix, according to Shipt, with 2.6 million households in New England having access to Target products.
Products can be delivered in as little as one hour.

“Through our app, our members have access to everything they need, when they need it. … This is just the beginning of the expansion Shipt and Target have planned for the year,” said Bill Smith, founder and CEO of Shipt, based in Birmingham, Ala.
Shipt’s shoppers will select, bag and deliver the items. The annual membership grants access to free, unlimited delivery on orders over $35. Shipt plans to add more than 1,100 Shipt shoppers across New England to be part of the team.
“Same-day delivery was at the top of our list when we were thinking about ways to make shopping at Target even easier,” said John Mulligan, Target executive vice president and chief operating officer.
Most Target stores will offer the service by the 2018 holiday season. By the end of 2019, same-day delivery will include all major product categories at Target.
