Tech Collective launches IT skills program

PROVIDENCE – During its “IT On Demand” pilot program this fall, the Tech Collective will host 15 participants and provide unemployed and underemployed IT practitioners with technical, business and experiential training.
The program is directed at workers with prior IT knowledge. It seeks to “skill up” participants and “prepare them to re-enter the workforce at mid-level,” according to a Tech Collective release.
Taking place from Sept. 16 to Dec. 20, the fall session highlights include VMware Data Center Virtualization and business management certification.
The session is broken into three training components: technical, business and experiential. The experiential component comprises 8 weeks of the 14-week program and will provide hands-on learning with a Rhode Island IT employer, Tech Collective said in the release.
New Horizons will provide the technical training for VMware Data Center Virtualization. Participants will have the opportunity to become VCP5-DCV certified.
Bryant University will provide business skills training; participants can earn a business management certificate.
Finally, participants will interview with a Rhode Island IT employer for an experiential learning position. Tech Collective anticipates that participants will be hired after successfully completing the 8-week experiential component.
