Teens graduate from Lifespan summer program

PROVIDENCE – Ninety-three teens, ages 16 to 19, graduated on Aug. 17 from the Lifespan Summer Youth Employment Program. About one-quarter of the graduates, who were honored at a graduation ceremony held at the Gerry House on the Rhode Island hospitals, have secured jobs within the Lifespan hospital system.
The program, now in its seventh year, provides paying summer jobs to teens from underserved areas in Rhode Island to help them learn valuable life skills and to assist them to succeed in the workplace.
Through the program, teens are employed by Rhode Island Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, Lifespan corporate services, and Newport Hospital. The initiative is designed to promote career exploration, with the teens working in a variety of areas, including radiology, physical therapy, cardiology, nursing, transport, central processing, human resources, food and nutrition, and respiratory care.
