NORTH KINGSTOWN – Toray Plastics (America) Inc. announced Tuesday that its lab analysis service for industrial films, laminates and finished printing structures – previously available only to Toray customers – will now be offered to all consumer packaging companies and converters industry-wide.
The service makes use of Toray’s wide array of lab equipment for in-depth analysis, as well as its industry acumen, to provide its clients with data and insights to inform strategic business planning, develop new product platforms and optimize production processes.

“The fluid, complex nature of film technology makes analysis and data vital for success,” said Bridget Hanafin, senior analytic chemist for Toray, in a release. “Toray’s lab test services have provided valuable results that our customers have used to make informed decisions about their production processes and how to best position themselves in the market. We’re excited to offer this service to the entire industry.”
Analysis offered through Toray’s service includes microscopy; materials and mechanical characterizations; rheology; physical, optical and appearance testing; surface properties; permeation; environment challenges; film processing; and structural assessment.
Specialty testing is performed either according to the standards set by the materials and systems standards organization ASTM International or Toray’s own internal test methods, the company said.
Toray, a leading manufacturer of industrial films for packaging, optical and electronic applications, earlier this month introduced a brand new product line of polyester films designed for the sterile packaging of medical supplies and equipment.
