PROVIDENCE – An evening celebrating champions of reproductive rights will be hosted Nov. 19 by the Planned Parenthood of Southern New England at Trinity Repertory Company’s Lederer Theater Center.
Headlining the event is journalist and author of “Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg,” Irin Carmon.
“Notorious” offers an illustrated biography of Bader Ginsburg and her crowning achievements, spent three months on the New York Times’ best-seller list and is currently in its 14th printing. Carmon was a national reporter with MSNBC and NBC News from 2013 to 2016 covering gender, politics and the law, with a special emphasis on reproductive rights and the U.S. Supreme Court.
“We are thrilled to welcome Carmon,” said Kafi Rouse, vice president of public relations and marketing with Planned Parenthood of Southern New England, in a statement. “We hope our friends and supporters will join us for what is sure to be an entertaining and enlightening evening.”
In addition to hearing from Carmon, the local chapter of Planned Parenthood will also honor Mary Ann Sorrentino, former executive director of Planned Parenthood of Rhode Island, who served from 1977 to 1987.
Open to the public, the event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a pre-reception for sponsors, including a meet-and-greet with Carmon and Sorrentino. The general reception begins at 6:15 p.m. and features passed hors d’oeuvres and beverages. The main program begins at 7 p.m., followed by coffee and dessert and a book signing by Carmon.
