PROVIDENCE – Two projects in the I-195 Redevelopment District were pushed forward on Wednesday, including a development agreement for a parcel on the East Side bordering Wickenden Street.
The district commission voted to sign a purchase and sale agreement with Truth Box Inc. and D+P Real Estate, a partnership of two Providence companies that have proposed to develop a mixed-use building, including housing over a grocery store, for Parcel 6.

The two companies previously partnered on the Urban Greens grocery market, which opened this summer in the West End area of Providence.
Under a letter of intent signed previously, developers Peter Case and Jordan Durham will combine efforts on a project that will include 13,100 square feet for a supermarket, and 49 residential units located between Wickenden and Pike streets on the North and South of the parcel, respectively, and South Water and South Main streets on the West and East of the block, respectively. Half of the housing will be workforce housing, considered affordable to households that earn between 80% and 120% of the area’s median household income.
The proposed purchase price is $1 million for Parcel 6.
Under an initial timeline, the lease with a grocery store should be executed by Dec. 31 and construction could start in April 2020.
An I-195 district spokeswoman declined to release the purchase and sale agreement on Thursday, because it had not yet been signed by the parties.
In other business, the commission in its meeting Wednesday also gave initial approval to a project by Exeter Property Group to develop Parcel 28. That project would involve 246 residential units and 22,700 square feet of retail space, in a new building. The architect is Torti Gallas.
