DARTMOUTH – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth has formed a partnership with the Azores to expand education and research initiatives focusing on Azorean Americans.
Chancellor Jean F. MacCormack announced the partnership with Dr. Carlos Cesar, president of the Azores. The agreement comes with a $100,000 grant from the Azorean government to the Ferreira-Mendes Portuguese-American Archives at UMass Dartmouth.
“Our university and our region have been enriched by the culture, the literature, the music, the food and the business that your people have brought to our communities,” said MacCormack during the grant award ceremony, held at Pal?cio da Concei??o in the Azores.
The grant will be used for the Ferreira-Mendes Portuguese-American Archives, a collection of materials focused on the “Portuguese-American experience.”
