Unemployment rate in Providence metro rises to 5.3% in August

PROVIDENCE – The unadjusted unemployment rate in the Providence-Warwick metropolitan area was 5.3% in August, an increase from 5.2% in July and 3.5.% in August 2023, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.  Unadjusted for seasonal employment patterns, the U.S. jobless rate in August was 4.4%, up from 3.9% a year earlier.
