Cortney Nicolato | United Way of Rhode Island CEO and president
What I love most about our state and the people in it: Rhode Islanders have a deep-rooted passion to help each other in times of need.
Today, maybe more than ever before, we need to embrace unity to overcome the critical issues that hold our community back. Time and time again, we have seen that when we don’t address the most basic needs of our neighbors, our problems don’t go away – they simply create further divisions between us.
We are at a critical moment. We must work together to ensure the success of our schools, to demand a supply of homes that average-income families can afford, and to best equip a ready and able workforce – ALL will position Rhode Island for success as a thriving community.
But with so much division in our world, members of our community are trying to understand what they can do to help. Many are pondering: How can I make an impact? When is the right time to step in? The answer is simple, the time is now to give whatever you can. Share your time and your talents with your favorite organization. And if you can, financially support the nonprofit sector and its important work.
Every single day I get to see the best of Rhode Islanders, people who step up in amazing ways and are passionate about helping their neighbors. And I know that if we’re going to solve our most-pressing issues, we must work together. Because United, we win.
